Whose line is it?

http://bbh-labs.com/whose-ad-is-it-anyway

This is a pretty interesting article. Long and short of it, whatever we produce a part of it has to be just for you, for your own satisfaction.

I like to hear the idea being defended. All too often it gets watered down for the sake of getting the job done. I think sometimes walking away from those situations is good. If you know what you're being asked to do won't do an idea justice, it's definitely better to walk away. Don't sacrifice quality. Do good work. It might mean working harder. It will probably be mean a bigger bin. But isn't that more satisfying to know you've made yourself and your client happy with a good idea, than compromised. Besides, there are loads of ideas out there. Look harder, longer, or somewhere else for the another idea that fits. And make everyone smile with it.

Pentax is back

Took my Pentax SLR to the Army Navy rugby match recently. These are the shots. Fun day out. In particular the pitch invaders, the last of which was the best and is immortalised in the photograph of his modesty on some tourists digital camera. Wish I'd had more film.

Twickenham.

Natural stuff

I don't know what it is, but every time I take camera out I end up taking pictures of nature and shit. Not actual shit. I wish I understood it. And then inevitably they never quite come out how I expect. It's almost like my viewfinder makes me feel like I'm tripping. Then the picture never really represents exactly what I saw that day.

So perhaps when you look at these bear in mind that chopped wood would have looked more cheese chunks to me. The white flower looked so white it was like a lightbulb, but in the daylight, yeah, that bright. And I can only assume the underside of that bush would have looked like it was alive, like arms and legs made out tree.

My massive box made me a friend

So I'm not that bad a big sis. After making a treasure hunt that led to nothing and then hiding his birthday cards, I did then do this for my brother. And whilst I was putting the finishing touches to said box in the Hopwood services car park, I made a friend with a passerby. A rather helpful truck driver helped me stick the lid together, thank you random truckie, for your help and for not knocking me over the head and dragging my off into your cab. Then again maybe you were more scared of me, you did seem quite perturbed.

For Bob

How does Bob Marley like his doughnuts?

Wi' jam in

For Michael

Why is the sea shore wet?

Because the seaweed.

What about Bob?

I like google this morning. Somewhere between wild camping in Canada and Shaun Keaveny's earmworms in bed this morning I heard about this google music locker. Much like Shaun's description, I can only pretend to understand it in the terms of rather than have a dusty pile of records, keep your music in a virtual vacuum where they're not so heavy, easier to sort through and they won't need dusting agian. It's possible I've got this wrong. Maybe instead it's as initial research suggests, just 'another of Apple's ugly sisters', but the fact that you could access your music on any device seems good to me. Then again everything I own tends to have an i of apple all over it anyway.

But that's not the point. The thing I wanted to say about google is I like it today but they've slipped up. Why is their landing page not Bob Marley related? 30 years today Bob Marley died. I'm sure it could be argued that much like Martha Graham- who IS on there today- Marley's contribution to music could be compared to 'the influence Stravinsky had on music, Picasso had on the visual arts' (thanks wikipedia). Or maybe not either way, Bob, he's a good man. My dad's name is Bob, he's got to be a good man then. Inspired by Capital's 'we jammin'' bad joke fest I think I meant devote part of my time today to seek out other Bob Marley jokes and use them all day long. Or else I might just tell the jammin' one over and over.

Bad big sister?

It's my little brother's birthday today. So I thought I'd make a big fuss of him. I made him a treasure hunt. A simple treasure that ended in nothing but a promise. The promise of present/s later today. But will there be?

Sunshine

On the plus side this arrived in the post today.

Where's the party?

Oh yeah sorry, that's right, there isn't one. No, in spite of some seriously unscheduled and extended early summer sunshine, and the fact that it's the third short working week in a row, no, it's still nigh on impossible to rustle up a bit of happiness here today.

I wish I'd stayed in bed.
